Mrs. Molander is excited to be kicking off her 5th year as the Director of Bands at Woodland Acres Middle School!  Her primary instrument is flute and she serves as the woodwind specialist for the WAMS Band.  She graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelors of Music (with an emphasis in Music Education) from the University of North Texas.  Mrs. Molander began her teaching career as the Assistant Director of Bands at Hambrick Middle School (Houston, TX).  During her two years at Hambrick, the bands under her direction made consistent “Superior” and “Excellent” ratings at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest.  The Hambrick Middle School Band also received several “Best in Class” and “Best Overall Band” awards at Director’s Choice Concert Festivals in Arlington and San Antonio, TX.  While working on her Masters of Music Education from Boston University, she worked as a Music Specialist at Meyer Elementary School (Spring, TX) for two years.  In 2016, Mrs. Molander was selected as Teacher of the Year for Meyer Elementary and a Top Five Finalist for Spring ISD’s District Teacher of the Year.

At WAMS, Mrs. Molander’s responsibilities include teaching the beginner woodwind classes (Flute, Clarinet, and Saxophone), co-teaching the beginner percussion class with Mr. Bordelon, leading the Concert Band and the Wind Ensemble, and co-teaching Symphonic Band with Mr. Sanchez.  Under her direction, the WAMS Wind Ensemble made history by earning Woodland Acres Middle School’s very first “Sweepstakes” rating for band at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest in 2017.  Since then, the WAMS Band has made consistent “Sweepstakes” and “Superior” ratings and has received numerous accolades from adjudicators on the band’s musical abilities, professionalism, and growth.

Mrs. Molander is originally from Pascagoula, Mississippi, but has lived in Texas for 9 years now.  She still enjoys visiting her family in Mississippi during the holidays and summer vacation.  Mrs. Molander married her high school sweetheart, who is also a teacher (3rd grade Reading).  Mr. and Mrs. Molander have four fur children--their cats, Oliver and Mirra, and their dogs, Jack-Jack and Milo--and a 1 year-old son--Max-Owen.  In her free time, Mrs. Molander enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching Max-Owen learn new things, going to the movies, binge watching shows on Netflix, playing video games (her current favorite is Overcooked 2), and baking delicious desserts.  She LOVES food, and always looks forward to trying new restaurants in the Houston area.
